Chisox and Bombers tie

The White Sox pitching shuts down the Yankees' great offense in New York, but the Yankee hitters shook off the rust on the road by belting the Sox at Comiskey. A 2-2 series tie.

Game summaries:

Game One: White Sox 8, Yankees 1
Whitey Ford has a rough first outing for NY, giving up six runs on nine hits, while the Sox's Joe Horlen pitches a complete game. Don Buford and Jim Landis are both 3-for-5 in the rout.

Game Two: White Sox 3, Yankees 2
Mel Stottlemyre can't find home plate in the first, giving up three walks and walking in a run, and giving up two more in the second on a J.C. Martin double. That was all the run support Gary Peters needed, as he shut down NY the rest of way. The Yanks mounted a rally in the ninth with Mickey Mantle's RBI narrowing the lead to one, but Hoyt Wilhelm came in to nail down the save.

Game Three: New York 12, Chicago 8
A wild game, with the Yankees finding the seats with five homers, three from Mantle. Ralph Terry is a bit rocky but gets the win, while the Chisox's Juan Pizarro hits the early showers. Two Sox are ejected after brawls instigated by throwing at batters in an ugly game.

Game Four: New York 7, Chicago 1
Fritz Peterson is in control, giving up only one run and two hits in a complete game win. Tommy John finds the exits early for Chicago as New York keeps up the offensive fireworks. Bill Skowron is 3-for-5 with two doubles and a homer, and Elston Howard comes through with a two-run triple in the easy win.
